School SongsAlma MaterFor the past 13 years during Homecoming week, the AHS Orchestras and Choirs have joined the Marching Band at Maple Stadium to perform our National Anthem and the AHS Fight Song. In order to coordinate efforts, the orchestra and choirs students join the band for a rehearsal on Wednesday night of Homecoming week. This year, on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, the combined Freshmen Choir, Bel Canto, Lady Blues and Concert Choir took part in the creation of a new tradition for Adrian High School Choirs. The event is being dubbed the "Rally 'Round the Bell". Members of all choirs met around the bell in front of our school to sing, as a mass choir, a new Alma Mater for the school. The song was written by Steve Anatalek (Director of Choirs) and Howard Stukey (retired Band Director) not to replace the school Fight Song, but to celebrate all that the students learn and experience in the 4 years they walk the halls of AHS. The lyrics are as follows:Fair Adrian
Fair Adrian … where mighty Maples grow,
To thee we lift our voices for the knowledge you bestow.
When from your halls we wander, your memory we’ll hold
We pledge to thee our loyalty as in the days of old
Around the bell we’ll rally to raise our voice in song
To thee our Alma mater we’ll sing out loud and strong.
To thee our Alma mater we’ll sing out loud and strong.
This original piece was written in the grand tradition of Alma Maters from our nation's colleges, universities, and yes, high schools.
The new song will be sung publicly for the first time at the beginning of the King and Queen
assembly before the Outstanding Alumni are introduced. It seems fitting that
this nostalgic song be presented during the week when so many Adrian alumni come
home to reunite and remember the days that they walked our halls.
