K-12 Commitment
APS is committed to offering music and movement from elementary and beyond.All students experience vocal and instrumental music in dedicated music rooms at the elementary level and choir, band and orchestra classrooms from Middle School and beyond. All students get the chance to appear or help in musicals from grade 5 up. Students are exposed to concerts, outside performances and field trips to local productions. Music students perform concerts and solo and ensemble competitions are experienced in grades 7-12. At the high school level, students not only have a wide selection of performance courses, but hands-on production experiences including a professional recording studio, and sound and lighting design. There are both concert and marching bands, concert and symphony orchestras and a popular drum line.
High School students participate in debate and forensics as a classroom experience and can join a law team which is an after-school club. A variety of dance clubs are also present at the high school which includes salsa, ballroom and hip-hop. An annual Jazz Festival and periodic jazz band performances also draw a good number of student participants.
