Leaders in Academics

Adrian High School is an International Baccalaureate World School offering the Diploma Programme in the Fall of 2010. Accepted in March of 2010, AHS is enrolling students in the IB Programme for the Fall Semester.  Originally granted candidate status in Fall 2008, AHS was visited by a team from the International Baccalaureate Organization in the Fall. A recommendation will be made by the IB team to the International Baccalaureate Organization which is headquartered in Geneva Switzerland.

Students begin a two-year course of study in their junior year. On successful completion of IB exams, students earn an IB diploma in addition to the traditional Adrian High School diploma. According to IB, "Diploma holders are ready to debate real-world issues from an international perspective, and to provide leadership and support in the local and global community."

IB Standards

Since its founding in 1965, IB has set the standard for academic rigor and pre-university preparation. The International Baccalaureate Diploma is recognized around the world as an indicator of a balanced education that fosters critical thinking and global perspectives. Students take courses in six subject areas and three core components: Theory of Knowledge; Creativity, Action and Service Learning and the Extended Essay. Students will demonstrate a capacity for in-depth study while maintaining a broad perspective of the different subject areas.
