General Information

Information in this section is to keep you up-to-date on various policies and procedures at Adrian Public Schools.  Please use some of the resources here to learn more about the district. The Information Guide which is published annually is a great resource of information about the district.

Volunteering

Do you have time and talent to share with the students of Adrian Public Schools? Each school has its own needs, so visit or call the school where you are interested in helping. There are Parent-Teacher Organizations, Arts Booster Clubs and Athletic Booster Clubs that welcome participation. You will be asked to fill out a Volunteer Form.

Student Registration

Registrations are accepted at any time. There is an annual kindergarten registration in late April, but registrations are accepted before or after that date. It is best to stop by any APS Elementary School to determine the elementary school's boundaries that you reside in. Registrations are also available at the Administrative Offices at 785 Riverside Ave.

Children must be 5 years old by December 1, 2009, to attend Kindergarten in the 2009-10 school year.

Safety

If a national security issue or disaster should occur and a RED ALERT be announced BEFORE SCHOOL HOURS: Schools will be CLOSED.  All activities and events scheduled for any district facility will be canceled until further notice.  School will remain closed until authorized to re-open by the Lenawee County Emergency Services Coordinator and the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department.

Should a RED ALERT be announced DURING SCHOOL HOURS:
School buildings will be secured and doors to the buildings locked.  School will remain in session until regular dismissal time, unless directed otherwise by the Lenawee County Emergency Services Coordinator.  All after-school activities and events will be canceled.  If it is determined by the Lenawee County Emergency Services Coordinator that it is not safe to send students home at dismissal time or earlier, we are prepared to maintain a shelter-in-place at our schools.  Each building has a supply of bottled water on hand, non-perishable food items, flashlights, battery operated radios and first aid kits.

In all circumstances, we will be following the direction of the Lenawee County Emergency Services Coordinator.During these situations we know that you will want to pick up your child(ren) from school and take them home.  Each building has established an orderly and safe procedure for the release of students and we ask for your cooperation in following these procedures.  If someone other than individuals listed on the student emergency card are sent to pick up your child, they will be asked to provide identification before removing your child from school.  All students will be released from the office area, not from the classroom.
