Starting in the 2010-2011 school year, Michener Elementary School became an official "Success For All" (SFA) school. The mission of SFA is to develop and disseminate research proven educational programs to ensure that all students, from all backgrounds, achieve the highest level. At the Kindergarten level, students participate in the program called "KinderCorner". Every 2 weeks, instruction takes place around a theme and covers various literacy learning domains. This program is taught throughout the student's school day and within their own classroom.

Michener's current "ROAR" reading program and the SFA reading program are one in the same. Our program's goal is to provide all students with learning experiences that enable them to attain reading proficiency. This is achieved by providing 90 minutes of uninterrupted direct literacy instruction at the student's reading level. Utilizing a balanced literacy approach, all students in Grades 1 through 4 are assessed during the first two weeks of school. Then, students are grouped within their reading level for maximum instructional time. Each marking period, students are reassessed and regrouped according to their progress. Literacy Support services (tutoring) are available for those students that may need additional reading instruction outside of the 90 minute reading block.

Michener Elementary has an enrollment of 330 students. A great deal of research suggests that smaller schools contribute to student's achievement, attainment and a sense of well-being. A growing body of literature suggests that downsizing can have a positive effect on attendance, behavior, satisfaction with school, greater self-esteem..and a feeling of community.
