Zap InformationThe ZAP program at Ø A student who fails to turn in a homework assignment on time will be assigned to an after-school detention to complete the uncompleted work. Ø These after-school sessions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 – 3:30. Ø If a student completes the assignment before this time they will simply turn it in after-school and be excused from the zap session. Ø Student will receive up to 70% for the completed homework assignment. Ø If a student fails to come to an assigned Zap session or does not complete the assignment after serving two sessions they will be written up for insubordination and be required to serve in school suspension time Ø The Zap session will take precedent over all other extracurricular activities. (If students complete the assignment before school is over they may turn it in and avoid serving the after-school time.) Due to the transportation issue and the need for follow through, this program truly can only work with the support and follow through of parents. Parents must have a plan in place for transportation if your student is zapped and required to stay after school to complete homework assignments. Parents will receive an instant alert no later than 1:30 through a recorded phone message. If you have had any change in phone numbers since the beginning of school year, please contact the school and update your information. This program will begin Thursday September 15, 2011. The decrease in student failures seen at schools where similar programs have been implemented is evidence that not allowing zeros is imperative to student success. We are asking for your cooperation and support with this program. Please return this form to your child’s first hour teacher. We strongly encourage all parents to join us in this program so that not completing homework is no longer an option. With your support we can see an increase in student success rates and help students to pass their classes and earn the credit necessary for promotion. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the office so that we can discuss how we can make this program work for your child. |
